Stroke Development : School Aged
A good stroke development coach trains their eye to see where the true fault is coming from. Is a dodgy kick the kick or is it actually an incorrect head position? A great teacher knows where the muscle initiation is for a movement and can turn that into fun and games for their student. I think stroke development is one of the most fun places on the planet.
There are as many ways to teach swimming as there are swim teachers. It’s important that you find a program where you can trust the process. Learning stroke takes time because it’s complicated.
Bunya & Samford Pools - different pools, same outcomes
School Aged stroke development is offered at both our Samford and Bunya Pool. The pools are very different, and ultimately what your child needs will depend on where we recommend they start.

Bunya
Bunya is a roasty toasty 32 degrees, salt water pool. We only have one class at a time so there’s very little to be distracted by. The pool itself is 11m long and only 1.1m – no deep end. It tends to produce beautiful, graceful strokes.
We teach all levels with teachers in the water.
The advantage of Bunya is that swimmers can master their stroke over a shorter distance.

Samford
Samford is a 25m salt water pool that sits around 27 degrees unless the weather gets REALLY warm and we turn it down a little.
We teach most stroke development from the pool deck at Samford (with the exception of Emerging Swimmers who still need a teacher in the water).
Swimmers learn how to take verbal instruction, and have the opportunity to practice their skills over longer distances.
Squads are often running at the same time as Stroke Development at Samford, which is great as the younger swimmers can be motivated by what the teens are achieving.
